ghost town carnival

June 17, 2015

Before heading out of my beloved Tennessee, my sis-in-law and I had to catch some pics at the traveling carnival. We shot in the morning when it wasn't open. It was dead and super overcast, feeling like a ghost town. The silence was almost deafening without merry-go-round music and kids screaming, the smell was too bland without funnel cakes frying. We definitely had some 10 am fun despite it all. Read on to hear about my thing for ferris wheels & what I hope to check off of my bucket list at the carnival someday!

how can you not be a little goofy at the carnival surrounded by huge stuffed animals?

Sometime in high school, I read this phenomenal book called The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. It's so spectacularly written, you think it would be fiction, but it's all factual. It covers a serial killer & the World's Fair in 1893 in Chicago when the Ferris Wheel was first created to combat the Eiffel Tower. Today, each little car you and your friends take a ride in only holds about 5 or 6 people. The first Ferris Wheel cars allowed 60 people, meaning the entire wheel could hold 2,000 people! What?! Seriously so cool! I totally nerd out about Ferris Wheels. Every time I see one, I always want to go take a ride. There's something so whimsical and timeless about them!

Something that's been on my bucket list for ages is that I hope to be kissed at the top of a Ferris Wheel someday.

Shop my carnival look {which also works for the 4th of July}

  2. These came out great! That must've been fun to be there taking photos when no one else was around. My favorite is the black and white shot where you're smiling/screaming.

    I don't like ferris wheels at all but that is a very interesting fact! I can't imagine one cart holding that many!
